New to me Saito FA-56
Hi everyone,
I just got a Saito FA-56. I needed to rotate the carb to suit the 45 degree (7:00) installation.
I want to make sure I have all the O rings on the intake manifold installed correctly. The exploded view only shows the o ring kid and not the individual parts. There is a rubber O ring, but then there is a metal thin ring as well. Since I bought this used, I'm not sure this is correct.
Anyone know the proper installation of the O rings?

O-ring in the relief, small washer holding it in. There is also an O-ring at the lower end of the intake tube, in a groove in the carb body. Normally it easiest to place the O-ring in the relief, then push to tube into it. When tightening the carb bolts push in on the intake tube. Gently of course.

I really like your plane, it's an Old School Sporter. and the Twin is the perfect engine for it.

Saito 65 with bronze rod bearings and bronze valve seats.
The FEDEX truck stopped by yesterday and dropped off a new FA 40a, surprisingly it has matte rocker covers. The valves were set spot on at .04 mm and the rod bearings have some some kind of black grease squeezing out of them. I'll run it in a day or two, we seem to be having a fall monsoon. I also show an FA 65 which I rebuilt, it has no, initial on the right mounting lug but is not a bumpy piston. Woops, I need to reduce the image size.

Sure hope that black grease is not “Moly” grease!
Looks like some cost-cutting going on with the rocker covers. Pretty certain I would pull them and give them a proper polish

Gary, I kinda like that look, the 65 I show has that finish has thar look also.
Thanks Easy guy. this is my second FA 40a, I have another about the same age as yours. This new is going on the OSMW 56 instead of the little 30-s. Does your Jumper look like this one, Thanks, Dave
It's a cute little feller.

I don't think it was Moly.
It cleared up in about 5 minutes.
Saves Saito a couple bucks so I bet they like it too
Okay on the grease.
BTW. It does look exactly like it contains molybdenum disulfide or at least graphite.

Really beautiful plane and I'm not surprised that the Saito started up without fuss after sitting around for all those years. Reliable engines for sure.

Yes Dave. Thats the Jumper 25 that ive had for 13 years and the Saito 40 has been on that plane for all that time and has never gave me any trouble at all. This photograph was taken a couple of weeks ago with my newly recovered Jumper 25.
